The Sweetalls went to see
Secretariat last night and I have to share my pride for our beautiful Kentucky that was displayed in the movie. My excitement was particularly high because we had the honor of seeing the movie with our friends, the Phillipses, who own Darby Dan Farm and where several scenes of the movie were shot (see the photo with Penny and Seth Hancock walking along the white fence - that is Darby Dan!), including the birth of Secretariat, which was a real birth from a mare at Darby Dan Farm. Additionally, Keeneland was the site of several scenes, including the Belmont Race where Secretariat and Ron Turcotte made their legendary win of the Triple Crown. Of course,
we know it is really Keeneland in the scene - Belmont can only hope to be that beautiful! Congratulations Darby Dan, Keeneland, and all of Kentucky for helping to make the movie a beautiful display of racing and horse tradition that we know is alive in the Bluegrass!
